I know what you're thinking, this burger is too "gouda" to be true! But it really is as delicious as it is simple and easy to make. And the kale packs a crunchy, healthy punch that even the pickiest eaters will love.

Instructions
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, thoroughly combine ground chicken, egg, shredded gouda, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, basil, kale, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Mix using a spatula or by hand for about a minute or two, avoid overworking the mixture.
Step 2
Form into 4 patties of equal size. They will be about 5 oz each. Form into patty shapes and press a thumb print firmly into the center of each, creating about a 1/4 inch divot. This helps avoid the burgers from puffing up into hockey pucks, keeping them in your desirable shape.
Step 3
Warm a skillet over medium heat. I love using this cast iron grill skillet! It creates the perfect char and grill marks. Once thoroughly warmed, add 2 tbsp olive oil or cooking spray. Place burgers in pan, making sure they have enough space and are not touching.
Step 4
Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until burgers reach an internal temperature of 160° instead. Optional: Once you flip the burgers. once, add a slice of gouda cheese on top of each. Once cooked, leave burgers on a plate to rest for about 5-10 minutes. The burgers will finish cooking on the counter, reaching an internal temperature of 165°.
Step 5
Assemble your dream burger with all of the toppings and sauces. I recommend pairing with a side of crisp french fries, the kale already has enough nutrients ;)
